France & UK Agri-Gene Tour Highlights 2009
Written by Brad Gavenlock – NSW Area Sales Manager

On Saturday 27th June Chris McIlroy, Kim Coleman and Brad Gavenlock made the journey to France and the UK to visit some of the most prestigious herds in France and the UK. During our two week tour we viewed daughters sired by bulls that are currently marketed in Australia through Agri-Gene as well as new sires to add to our line-up.

First bull off the rank is VOSAC MAN who is an Oman son from a VG86 Jocko daughter who offers the complete package. Vosac is what we are after to complement our current team and will do a great job in Australia. He has great Type and Udders both at +2.5 and all his daughters were very consistent, displaying snug Udders with great Fore attachments and excellent Teat Placement. He will add Body Depth, Chest Width and Stature. One of the highlights in his production proof is his outstanding Fat and Protein deviations and high Milk Flow. Then we come to his Functional Health traits, he offers great SCC, Longevity, Temperament, Calving Ease and Fertility. Vosac ticks all the boxes and that will make him one of our biggest sellers in the coming year with his great value for money. He is also available in the Health and Fitness Pack with Titos @ $22 + GST. You must order a minimum of 25 doses of both Vosac & Titos to get this Special.

Another outstanding sire to add to our line-up is UMANOIR who is a Negundo son from a VG88 Aaron which hails from the same family as Rouki and Radical. Umanoir has superb Type at +3.6 with his daughters displaying great Udders, excellent Udder Depth and Rear Udder Height. His progeny had some of the best and most consistent frames on a group of daughters I had ever seen. He is outstanding for Body Capacity at +2.9 and will improve Stature, Chest Width, Body Depth and Feet & Legs.

One of the new bulls this year is TITOS who is sired by leading Fertility sire Merdrignac from a cow family that has 10 generations of VG or Excellent cows with an average of 87.8 points. Titos is a bull that offers an Outcross pedigree with his daughters displaying excellent Pin Width and Pin Set, good Stature, Chest Width and Body Depth. Titos is an Outcross all rounder whose proof excels for Fertility, Longevity, SCC with good Type, Production and positive Components.

Second crop ROUKI daughters really stood out on the tour, they were very similar to the Umanoir progeny displaying big open frames with great Feet & Legs and good Udders. Rouki will improve Chest Width, Body Depth, Stature, Udder Depth and Feet and Legs. With his large Milk Flow, Calving Ease and Outcross pedigree, he can give you some great options.

The two other bulls that we saw second crop daughters from were RADICAL & REXONDI, which have added large numbers of daughters to their proofs now and have both lifted. Both bulls hail from a great cow family that has also bred Rouki and Umanoir. Radical’s have great Feet and Legs and outstanding Rear Udders. He is the type of bull that you can use with ease and no major thing to protect him on, just a hassel free bull. Rexondi has been the biggest mover on the second crop proofs. There frames where outstanding, they had deep bodies, excellent Chest Width, Pin Width and great Feet and Legs and displayed really good Rear Udder Height and Width.

In the UK we had the opportunity in viewing three groups of TREGIBBY daughters and were very impressed, he is breeding the type of cow you would expect from his pedigree. They had great frames, excellent flat bone, deep rib and good snug Udders and good Rumps. We also got to see his famous dam - Storm Maude and what a cow she is, every bit as good as the photo and one of the longest cows we had ever seen.
