Holstein
August ABV Highlights - Breed Legend JOCKO has once again confirmed his position amongst the Holstein greats by adding more daughters and once again increasing for APR and all Production traits. He is in the Top 1% of the breed in Australia for APR, Protein, Milk and also Farmer Likeability which is a testament to the fact that combined with his impressive Production traits he produces daughters with great Udders that have Ligament Strength and are made to last.
2010 Australian PT Graduate sire IDEALPRIDE had another impressive proof and despite being still short on daughter numbers he increased for Milk Production and while adding another 6 daughters to his Type proof he increased for no less than 16 individual Type traits. He also increased for important secondary traits such as Calving Ease, Cell Counts and Survival, these traits when combined with his Type and positive Components for Production suggest that he will represent great value for the upcoming spring matings.
Another Australian bull who continues to impress on second crop is LIONHART who has added 169 second crop daughters since April and increased for APR and offers a great all round Calving Ease option.
Second Crop Success story bull from France, REXONDI now has 130 daughters in 40 herds in Australia and received his first Australian production proof which saw him jump 20 points on APR and is one of the highest bulls available for ASI, Protein and Milk.
Other big movers on the Interbull ranking from France included new O-Man son VOUSTER who is one of the highest bulls available and offers great Profitability with excellent Health traits and extreme Components. Vouster was one of the finds from Graham Heaver’s Farmer Tour to France earlier this year.
VOSAC is another O-Man son who has been a very popular bull all over the world and Australia is no exception. He is receiving high use for his combination of Health and Fitness traits with breed leading Type and Udders. He would surely have to be one of the leading O-Man sons on the market who allows you to improve Functional traits such as Fertility, Longevity and SCC without sacrificing Type or Production.
We are getting good reports on the first milking STOLJOC daughters in Australia and are eagerly awaiting more daughters to calve in the spring for this International Sire of Sons who also increased on his already impressive Interbull proof in August.
From the USA ERNESTO continues to impress, now with 237 milking daughters he again increased for TPI and is one of the best for Udders with scores of over +4 for Rear Udder Width, Ligament and Teat Placement. He has been used heavily in Australia as a great value Sexed Semen sire and his first Australian daughters will be calving this spring with much anticipation.
From the Genomics point of view 2 of Agri-Gene’s most popular US Genomic bulls continue to see high use in Australia, they include; GENODOMAIN, the breed leader for outcross, high type and breed leading health traits maintains his incredible ranking for the 4th consecutive run. Progeny are in the highest priced sales earned for first choice options over the course of the last year. Still amongst the Top 5 active bulls of the breed, Domain is also among breed leaders in SCR ratings at + 4.5 confirming above average fertility. Domain’s dam – Ronelee Outside Dabble – ET EX91 2E was recently nominated for the Global Cow of the Year 2010. Dabble is also the No.1 Productive Life cow in the breed at +8.6 and she has produced over 170,000 Lbs of milk lifetime.
Popular Bolton son GENOEXPLODE still seeks high use amongst breeders wanting to improve Type, Production and Udders. Both bulls are amongst the highest TPI bulls available while new to the Agri-Gene line-up is GENOELITE who is a full brother to Explode’s dam, the famous Wabash-Way Emilyann who is currently one of the highest contracted cows in the USA.
Also new to Agri-Gene’s line-up are 2 Red Carrier Genomic bulls – Brunner MR TOP, a Goldwyn x Talent bull whose Type from the August proofs increased to +19 in Canada and +3.7 in the USA, making him the undisputed No.1 Type RC/Red bull in the breed and Joren RAPTOR another Goldwyn x Talent who is also one of the best for Type and goes back to the WDE Champion Renita Ranger Red.

Other Highlights – NSW / QLD Agri-Gene Sales Representative – Brad Gavenlock noted that he has viewed a number of ERNESTO daughters. All breeders that have used this sire are very happy with what they have and alot of them have gone back and are using more.
The Cuda family from Malanda, QLD showed a couple of Ernesto daughter’s at the Malanda show, there were 27 head in the All-Australian class and their two Ernesto yearlings stood 2nd & 3rd in the class. Brad has also seen alot of very nice RIONEL AD daughters in milk; they have all been the Tallest in their groups, high & wide Rear Udders and ideal Teat Placement.
ALANTA is still doing a great job, the Polson Family of Taree, NSW are milking twelve x 1st & 2nd Lactation daughters and the lowest classified one is 83 points, they are still heavily using him and really like their progeny. Finally Brad has also seen some really nice REALITY calves; they have all been very fancy calves with plenty of width throughout their rumps.
Western District / SA / Tasmanian Agri-Gene Sales Representative - Graham Heaver reports on many good VOSAC calves in the Western Districts area and the Fertility of the Vosac semen. Recently Graham visited Donavon’s Dairies, SA who have Vosac calves on the ground and are very impressed. Graham has also recently visited Wayne and Jo Drayton’s Timboon, VIC who are extremely happy with their first calving SUBURN heifers (110% in all areas according to Wayne); Mark Everett a neighbor also expressed total satisfaction with his Suburn progeny, especially Body Depth and Udders.
Northern Vic / Riverina / Southern NSW Agri-Gene Sales Representative – John Dickinson reports that he has inspected a number of STOL JOC daughters on farm and are very impressive. At Greg Fitszimmon’s he is milking one daughter which is Tall, open ribbed with a well attached Udder, high and wide. Very good Teat Placement and is a pleasure to milk, quiet Temperament. Cameron McIlveen is also milking one Stol Joc daughter which displays plenty of depth, length and overall balanced and will develop into a great cow. Teat Placement was spot on. Rob Gundry is milking two Stol Joc daughters and was pleased with both of them. One of those heifers is his highest APR heifers milking in the herd. He quoted that; “They are the best heifers he has milked”.
Show Highlights – At the New York Red & White State Fair Oakfield REALITY and REDLINER featured well throughout the top placings in the show. Tisha Lee – Red (Reality-Red) placed 1st, Heiview Redliner Naomi-Red (Redliner) placed 2nd in the Spring Calf class and went onto to win Reserve Junior Champion of the Junior Show.
Elm-Spring R Trix-Red-ET (Redliner) placed 1st in the Fall Calf class, Even-Par RL Boogie-Red-ET (Redliner) placed 1st and Ziems Sunirae-Red-ET (Redliner) placed 3rd in the Spring Yearling Class. Spring-Fed Rdlr Sonya Red-ET (Redliner) placed 2nd in the Junior 2 Year Old in Milk class and Kulp-Dale R Rochelle-Red (Redliner) placed 2nd in the Senior 2 Year Old in Milk class.
At the recent International Red & White Holstein Show at World Dairy Expo REDLINER progeny excelled in the heifer show with MD-Hillbrook Sunburst-Red-ET (Redliner) placed 1st Fall Yearling and went onto to win Junior Champion of the Open Show and 2nd placed Fall Yearling was awarded to Ka-Geo Knckt Rose-Red-ET (Redliner). 3rd placed Spring Calf went to Jerland Get Me There-Red-ET (Redliner), 4th placed Winter Calf went to Rod-ER-Doc Reality Kati-Red (Reality-Red), 1st placed Summer Yearling went to Louidgi Redliner Trissia (Redliner) and 2nd placed Winter Yearling went to Ka-Geo Wildrose-Red-ET (Redliner).
Jersey
August ABV Highlights - The Jersey highlight from the August 2010 ABV proof run was without a doubt the performance of outstanding prospect Australian bull SANDBLAST. While still short on daughter numbers to receive his official proof, Sandblast added more daughters since receiving his initial April proof and shot up another 46 APR points. He also increased for ASI, Protein, Fat and Mammary and will be an extreme Component Improver.
Other Australian bulls to feature were high Type bull FERNJACE who held up his place amongst the top Type bulls in the breed and pleasingly increased his Production proof by 35 ASI points and 12 Kgs of Fat and Protein while adding another 15 daughters.
SPIRITUAL remains one of the highest Type APR bulls on the market, he continues to provide outstanding Farmer Satisfaction and will Improve Overall Type, Udders, Capacity and Strength.
A recent herd visit to Jugiong Jerseys was very impressive with milking Spiritual daughters who were very consistent showing plenty of style with great Spring of Rib, excellent Rump Structure with very good shallow well attached Udders. Pat Nicholson of Jugiong Jerseys quoted; “Very Impressed with the Spiritual progeny and will continue to use this sire heavily throughout their herd”.
From the USA TBONE continues to lead the way and he had a great August proof run where he added over 500 daughters to his proof. He now has over 2,000 daughters and jumped from 95 to 130 JPI and is one of the highest Type and Udder Index bulls available.
USA Outcross Sire – KANOO’s first semen shipment is available this month, he is an Impuls son from an EX Henery – P cow with two records of over 27,000 Lbs with a 5.9% Fat Test. He offers high Production with good Components and will leave snug, well attached Udders with good Ligament Strength.
New Release – Agri-Gene is delighted to announce the arrival of new sire – Tower Vue Prime TEQUILA – ET sired by Sparkler out of Pleasant Nook Sambo Teal – EX94. Tequila is ranked amongst the top Udder sires in the breed at +5.59 JUI and +2 for Overall Type. Tequila is siring the show winning heifers and cows with fantastic Udders that are creating a lot of excitement over in North America.
Show Highlights – At the recent Melbourne Royal Show, Intermediate Champion Cow was awarded to Homelands Sleeping Beauty – ET sired by PARAMOUNT. She also went on to win Reserve Intermediate Champion in the Interbreed section.
In the 7-9 Month heifer class a RINGMASTER daughter claimed 1st prize - Homelands Ringmaster Neroli.
At the recent World Dairy Expo new sire TEQUILA excelled well in the showring with Crossbrook Tequila Sam placing 1st in the Spring Calf class, PF Tequila Makes Me Giddy placing 3rd in the Summer Yearling class and Norse Star Tequila Katie.
In the Junior 2 Year Old in Milk class 1st place went to South Mountain Voltage Spice – ET, sired by former Gold Label sire – GOLDVOLT (Golden x Veronica EX97).
At the Northwest Washington Jersey State Fair in the USA Ringmaster featured well throughout the heifer classes with Family Hill Ringmaster Winner placing 1st in the Winter Yearling class, Family Hill Ringmaster Famous placing 1st in the Senior Yearling class & went onto to win Reserve Junior Champion. The Junior Pen of Females was awarded to Family Hill with all three daughters sired by Ringmaster.
Other Highlights - For the Top 20 Sires by Registrations, SPIRITUAL is ranked 3rd in Australia with 85 daughters registered between the months of March and July. TBONE and SPECIAL FORCES were also ranked amongst the Top 20 sires for registrations.
In the recent August ABVs, Cairnbrae Flowers Estelle – SUP92 dam of popular Agri-Gene PT sires MAXAMILLION and GIZER is officially ranked 2nd for ASI.
Ayrshire
Show Highlights – At the recent Adelaide Royal Show, Champion Cow was awarded to Cher-Bar MP Incarnate who is sired by former popular Agri-Gene sire – Lone Birch MASTERPIECE.
Brown Swiss
Show & Sale Highlights – Recent success at the Brisbane Royal Show (Ekka), Champion Cow was awarded to Nethervale Denmark Sarajevo – EX95 who is the dam of PT sire – Nethervale Sarajevos SARGENT.
Recently at the Melbourne Royal Show Roland Lodge Star Dust, sired by popular Brown Swiss “Sexed Sensation” STARSTRUCK placed 2nd in the 9-15 Month heifer class.
At the recent Cooltah Brown Swiss sale hosted by David & Marsha Shibble of Macquarie Valley, NSW a CONQUEST daughter sold for a top price of $11,000, owned & bred by Max Wake of Singleton, NSW.
Guernsey
Show Highlights – Popular Guernsey sire DIVIDEND featured predominantly in the Combined Dairy Breeds judging at the recent Melbourne Royal Show. In the 3 Year Old in Milk class Glenally Dividend Minty placed 2nd, In the 5 Year Old and Over (Dry in Calf) class Glenally Div Ronnie placed 1st and in the Aged Cow class Glenally Div Chloe placed 1st.
Illawarra
August ABV Highlights – SCARLET is the No.1 Milk Production bulls for all Red breeds and is one of the best for Protein, Ligament Strength and Teat Placement. He has an excellent Type ranking of +109 for Overall Type and +108 for Mammary. His Workability rankings are also excellent where is +103 for Milking Speed and +104 for both Temperament and Likeability making him one of the most complete Type, Production and Functional bulls available.
Show Highlights – At the recent Adelaide Royal Show, Junior Champion was awarded to Kangawarra Passion 3136 who was sired by popular Agri-Gene bull SCARLET.
In the Illawarra section at the recent Brisbane Royal Show (Ekka) a maternal sister to Panorama Angeline 8th – Dam of Illawarra Gold Label sire REDRAMA was crowned Champion Illawarra Cow.
At the recent Melbourne Royal Show, Champion Cow in the Combined Coloured Breeds section was awarded to a STARTRUMP daughter – Winganna Startrump Handsome. She was also the recipient of the Type and Production award.
Milking Shorthorn
Show Highlights – At the recent Canadian Milking Shorthorn Show Agri-Gene sires REDRAMA, ACADEMYADAM and LOGIC dominated the show. In the Junior Calf class 1st place went to Headacher Redrama Ivy (Redrama), 2nd place went to Lynmark Cleer – P (Academy Adam) and 3rd place went to Lynmark Logic Ladyship (Logic).
In the Senior Calf class Prinsville Logic's Equal (Logic) placed 3rd in the class. In the Summer Yearling class Cedar Creek Logic Jeanette 11 (Logic) placed 1st in the class and went onto to win Reserve Junior Champion.
In the Junior Yearling class Prinsville Logic Fashion (Logic) placed 2nd in the class and in the Senior Yearling class Maple Inn Rosemary 61st (Logic) placed 1st in the class.
In the 3 Year Old in Milk class 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed cows were all sired by Logic with the 1st place cow Headacher Logic Doris taking out the Grand Championship aswell. Reserve Champion Cow was also awarded to another Logic daughter Lynmark RL Clarice. Rebel Logic was also awarded Premier Sire of the Show.
Normande
On Farm Highlights - Western District / SA / Tasmanian Agri-Gene Sales Representative - Graham Heaver recently visited Brian, Lorraine and Nicole Robertson’s herd at Allendale, SA. They are excited about their first Normande heifers that are doing 37 ltrs in a large herd.
British Friesian
On Farm Highlights - Western District / SA / Tasmanian Agri-Gene Sales Representative - Graham Heaver has seen some really outstanding OSSE, SEM7 and HYLKE calving heifers at Roger Clarks in SA. They displayed fantastic Width and Angle of Rump in these well grown heifers. They had tremendous Dairy Strength and beautiful Udders.
Roger quoted; “He loved the Temperament of the heifers as they would not leave you alone when you were trying to view them. Trouble-free cows, very happy and will continue to use Friesian”.
Angus
Recent News – It is with regret that we report the passing of Leading Australian Angus Sire LAWSONS DINKY DI Z191 who died in September this year. Dinky Di has left his mark on the Australian Angus scene with his ability to leave Low Birth Weight cattle with ample Muscle and Growth and Carcase traits at the very top of the breed. Semen supply on the bull is adequate for this season however high demand will see pressure on his stocks into the next year.
Sale Highlights – Weeran Angus Sale – Top priced bull at $6750 was paid for a Dinky Di son. The bull had entered the Weeran breeding program and ranked highest in a structural assessment conducted by Dick Whale across the entire sale draft. The Dinky Di son was highly praised for its Long Fed CAAB Index of 135 and also it’s Calving Ease. Dinky Di proved a popular sire line with a further four of his sons sold at an average $4550.
Other Sale highlights over the past few months included the performance of HYLINE RIGHT TIME 338 who managed to the Dulverton Sale at $14,000. In all 9 x 338 sons sold at Dulverton for an average of $7944.
In the New England bulls sales in August 338 also topped Fred Bell’s Glenavon Sale at $14,000 while B/R AMBUSH 28 topped both the Eastern Plains and Wattletop sales.
BT EQUATOR 395M sons have also been selling extremely well and he recently topped the Pert Angus Sale in September.
Show Highlights – Agri-Gene sires have once again proven to be successful in the showring at major shows throughout the country. In the Angus section at the recent Adelaide Royal Show, Grand Champion Female was awarded to a BT RIGHT TIME 24J daughter – PJ Dream Y14, bred & owned by PJ Cattle Co. At the Brisbane Royal Show (Ekka) a RITO 4I6 son won his Junior Bull class for Greg Fuller of Pine Creek Angus while at Melbourne Royal a B/R NEW FRONTIER 095 daughter was awarded Junior Champion heifer for PG, PM & GP Kalladay.
New Release – RITO 9B30 is an exciting new Angus sire who represents the cutting edge of Carcase genetics with Style, Conformation and excellent Structure in a 6.5 Frame. He is sired by B/R Ambush 28 and is out of a GAR Predestined cow who goes back to the great 2536 cow.
He has a great set of EPD’s in the USA where he is amongst the highest bulls in the breed for Marbling at +1.19 and $Beef at +77. He is also in the Top 1% bulls for Ribeye and Carcase Weight.
EDGE Update – Popular Australian EDGE bull ARDROSSAN EQUATOR D19 is now fully allocated for the EDGE program. New US sire SITZ BULL DURHAM 10308 is proving popular now that his illustrious sire Sitz New Design 458N is no longer available to Australian breeders.
New for Spring 2010 to the EDGE line-up is Neutron 377 son BOOROOMOOKA NEUTRON D337. From the same cow family that has produced popular sire Booroomooka Theo T030, D337 has an excellent well balanced set of EBV’s with low Birth Weight and Top 10% for Growth, Scrotal, CW, EMA, Fat Cover and all $Index’s.
Limousin
New Release – Currently the highest use Limousin in France URVILLE is a new release bull to Australian breeders for 2010. Over +110 in France for no less than 10 individual index traits, he offers excellent Maternal Value with very good Milk and Fertility while still maintaining outstanding Beef and Weaning Index’s.
SUC AU MAY is another new French Limousin to our Limousin team. With an excellent Calving Ease Index of +117 combined with Muscling and Weaning Index’s over +120 Suc Au May is a great option for a Vealer Type bull and is priced to be attractive for both Stud and Commercial producers.
Charolais
Recent News – We have been receiving great reports on the first DBAR SYNERGY 721T calves born in Australia. Duncan Newcomen from Ashwood Park Charolais in Yea reports that his Synergy calves are the standout progeny group from his Autumn born calves this year. Stylish with great eye appeal they were born easily and are weighing out well with very good Muscle pattern.
Show Highlights – At the recent Adelaide Royal Show, GAUGUIN sired the Reserve Interbreed Sires progeny group, bred & owned by Chenu Charolais Stud.
