HOLSTEIN
French Proof Highlights - The latest June French Proofs has once again demonstrated the stability of the French Bull Proving System which consistently graduates new bulls with an excellent ratio of daughters to herds with high numbers.
USONET FIN was the No.1 bull from the February French proofs, in June he added more daughters to now have an impressive 101 daughters in 99 herds and again improved his ISU ranking. However he now sits at No.2 as was dethroned by another Sersia sire. VIA THEO, an Oman x Lorak Sire who is the new No.1 French sire.
Other sires of note from the June proofs were impressive all rounder TITOS DRI who maintained his good figures for Type and Components with excellent Health Traits. Leading Jocko sons STOL JOC and SUBURN also maintained their high rankings and will continue to see high usage in Australia this year.
However without a doubt the highlight of the new French Proofs was the continued rise of second crop performers such as PATUR AD and brothers ROUKI, RADICAL and REXONDI. Rexondi has added over 6,500 second crop daughters this year, he is now a Top 20 bull and the highest ISU second crop sire in France. Rexondi’s full brother Rouki is the higher Type bull of the 2 brothers and has added over 9,000 daughters this year. His Type is now +3.0 while he has a calving ease ranking of 94. Now deceased this could well be the last year of availability for this elite Sire of Sons.
Radical who is a Jocko brother to Rouki and Rexondi has also achieved amazing second crop success which has seen his Interbull APRi ranking jump from +70 in April 08 to +103 in April 09. He would have to be one of the highest Fat Kg and test Jocko sons available. In the June proofs he increased even more, he now has 50 Kgs of Fat at +2.8%. He also increased for ISU, milking Speed, SCC, Longevity and remains one of the best Temperament bulls in France.
Australian ABV Highlights - The release of the April 2009 ABV’s has once again confirmed French Super Sire JOCKO’s position amongst the greats in the Holstein breed in the past 20 years. Now with over 1,000 daughters milking in Australia Jocko sits at No.4 on the available bull lists and is the No.1 bull in the Top 200 APR sires for both Protein and Milk Yield. He is also in the Top 1% of the breed for APR, ASI, Temperament, and Farmer Likeability and has an excellent overall Type and Mammary proof.
From the April proofs his popular Australian proven son LIONHART has also established himself as Australia’s Premier Calving Ease Sire – Equal No.1 for Calving Ease at +104 and the only Holstein sire in the Top 200 APR sires at over +110 for Overall Type with +104 Calving Ease, he is also the fourth highest ranked Milk Yield bull in the Top 200. The Jocko/Lionhart Profit Pack will again offer Australian Dairy Farmers unprecedented value in Type, Production and Reliability for 2009.
Other highlights from the April Release were the fact that ALANDONOR received his first official Australian proof. A Donor son from a prolific cow family which has already produced Winluke, Billionaire and Candyman, Alandonor is +98 for APR, he is positive for both Protein and Fat %, has very good Type and Udder traits and excels for his workabilities where he is +103 for Milking Speed and +104 for both Temperament and Farmer Likeability.
We are also receiving tremendous reports on REXONDI daughters in milk displaying good udders, great frames and ideal teat placement.
USA Proof Highlights - From the USA April proofs new release Agri-Gene sire Hurtgen-Vue REALITY-Red remains the No.1 Red and White Holstein Sire for the second proof run in a row. He is now receiving world-wide use as a Sire of Sons and is sure to be a high demand sire for 2009.
Another sire sure to be high demand after once again improving on his already impressive USA proof is ERNESTO. One of the best value SEXED SEMEN sires on the market Ernesto now has 139 daughters in 20 herds and again improved his TPI where he is one of the highest available at +1937, his excellent Type rating of +2.77 and Udder Composite of +3.56 is sure to put pressure on his semen supplies for both Conventional and Sexed.
Agri-Gene is also excited by the release of two new Red Holsteins which will also be available as Sexed Semen Sires. They include West Port Goldwyn BADGER who is a Red Carrier Goldwyn son from one of the most noted families in Red breeding who have produced proven sons Bravisi-Red, Bruno-Red and Bradoc-Red. His dam is one of the top Red & White LPI cows in Canada and was 3rd place for the Global Red Cow of the Year in 2008.
The other exciting Red Holstein Sire is Lismore Advent RAMBO – ET RC who is sired by one of the most popular Red Holstein sires Advent. He is straight out of the Blackrose family with his dam being an EX91 Outside, next dam is Leader Rose EX91 2E, the next dam of Talent and the third dam Blackrose EX96 herself.

Australian ABV Highlights - From the Jersey ABV’s the highlight was without a doubt the much awaited arrival of high profile Jersey bull SPIRITUAL’s first official Australian proof. Now with 40 daughters in 18 herds, Spiritual is No.4 on the available APR sire rankings and is the only Jersey bull available who is over +100 for APR and over +110 for both Overall Type and Mammary. Combined with his excellent Type ranking he has outstanding Workabilities highlighted by +105 for Farmer Likeability and will improve Cell Counts, Fertility and Longevity. Excellent reports on milking daughters who are attracting attention for their high P.I’s and superb overall Conformation. Spiritual’s dam - Riverside Berretta Sharna 742 - ET SUP92 EX5 is a Top 10 Jersey Australia Herd Production Award Recipient for 2009 – Combined Fat & Protein 882Kgs.
Another Jersey bull to gain his initial Australian proof is SPARTICUS; this Flowerpower son is out of the much admired South Australian cow Fleurieu Astound Selly SUP92 EX5. He is yet to get his official proof due to low daughter numbers but one of his early PT daughters has already brought attention to Sparticus by taking out the Reserve Intermediate Championship in the Hunter Valley on Farm Challenge for Shirlinn Jerseys. Currently with 22 daughters in his April proof Sparticus has an APR of +97, he has over 900 litres of Milk and is +107 for both Overall Type and Mammary with good Workabilities – definitely on to watch as he adds more daughters to the August proofs and beyond.
Other Jersey Highlights - Excellent reports on the first FERNJACE daughters milking in Australia who are displaying very good Type in large frames and are inheriting the excellent Rear Udder & Ligament Strength from his dam – Bushlea Brook Fernleaf 7 – VHC90
Farmer Favorite – WF BOMBER is proving that he can sire farmer satisfaction with a large number of people milking Bombers re-ordering the bull. Daughters are excelling in show & sale rings all over Australia with a daughter – Rivendell Bomber Merle - VHC92 selling for a 2nd top price of $10,200 in the Brunchilli Golden Legacy Sale in 2009 & was also crowned Honorable Mention Champion at Sydney Royal in 2009. Another daughter – Riverside Bomber Fame 3162 was recently awarded the Top 3 year old Jersey Australia Herd Production Award Recipient for 2009 – Combined Fat & Protein 853Kgs.

USA Proof Highlights - From the Jersey Interbull proofs the clear standout is USA Sire Richies Jace TBONE A364, introduced into Australia late last year Tbone has an Interbull APR of +105 with an outstanding Type Ranking of +122 for Overall Type and +113 for Mammary’s – clearly the No. 1 Type bull on Interbull he is also the highest USA Jersey for APR. ANGUS
Sale & Showring Highlights - At the recent Stern Angus Sale in New Zealand the performance of HIGHLANDER OF STERN sons was a definite standout. They were keenly sought after with the first 10 sons offered making an aggregate of exactly $100,000 to a top price of $18,000. Overall 23 Highlander sons were sold for an average of over $8,000 against the overall sale average where 85 bulls averaged $6,000.
The Highland bulls displayed ample depth of hind, quarter and thickness throughout with superb softness. Highlander sons have been selling well in other New Zealand bull sales and as news of his New Zealand success makes its way across the Tasman his usage in Australia is set to increase.
Bendigo Beef Expo 2009 saw continued success in the show ring for Agri-Gene’s Angus team; Interbreed Junior Champion Female was taken out by KO Vicky D51 sires by BT EQUATOR 395M who also won her class at this year’s Sydney Royal Show.
Senior Champion bull was awarded to a BT RIGHT TIME 24J son exhibited by Lyn Frecklingham of Hollywood Angus, while the Reserve Senior Champion was sired by BT ULTAVOX 297E and the Reserve Junior Champion was a son of former EDGE sire BT TOUCHDOWN.
At the 2009 Sydney Royal Show B/R NEW FRONTIER 095 continued his amazing run in Australian show rings over the past 2 years by again siring the Senior Champion bull exhibited by Pine Creek Angus.

Sale Highlights – The April 2009 Wodonga All Breeds Sale was topped by a GAUGUIN son Rangan Park Gauguin C15 who sold as a Stud sire to South Australia for $8,500.
SIMMENTAL
New Release Sire – Due into Australia in late July is a new generation Homozygous Polled and Homozygous Black Simmental bull TRIPLE C BETTIS S72J. With no Dream On and Lucky lines, Bettis is an outcross sire who excels for a combination of Calving Ease, Performance, Maternal and Carcase Merit.
