Agri-Gene Spring ABV Highlights - August 2011

The Release of the August 2011 ABV’s has once again demonstrated the Strength of the Agri-Gene Dairy Line-Up.

Holstein
ABV Highlights - Without a doubt the highlight from the August ABV Release was the performance of Holstein bull ERNESTO who sits at No.1 on Interbull for Udders at +120 and is the equal No.2 Sire on Type at +116. His first Australian daughters are now milking and making a great impression, he is set to make his mark in Australia where he represents great value and is also available as a Sexed Semen Sire.

German All-Rounder GOLDINO remains the No.1 Australian Proven Goldwyn son and once again increased for APR, ASI, Fat & Protein Kgs as well as Overall Type & Udders, he also now has the added bonus of being positive for both Fat & Protein tests. Goldino added more daughters and as well impressing for Type and Production he also excels for functional traits such as Udder Heath, Fertility and Longevity and with his excellent Calving Ease rating both in Australia & Germany he is an excellent choice for heifer matings this Spring.

Two new Agri-Gene PT Graduates received their first Australia proofs in the August release and look to be bulls for the future. They are GOLDPIPER, an Australian Shottle son from the same cow family as Lordpres from Clydevale, he is a Top 50 APR Australian Proven bull with very good Type and Udders and excellent Workabilities while French PT Graduate FRADRIANO received his first Australian proof and is one of the best for Overall Type. He is a Laudan son from one of the most sought after cow families in France, his dam is classified EX and both her and her dam have been at one point ranked the No.1 ISU Index cows in France.

Australian Genomic Highlights - Agri-Gene have 3 bulls in the Top 15 APR Sires in the August Good Bulls Guide. They are Shottle son JIFFEY, who sits at No.4 and is the highest bull without any Roumare influence in his bloodlines, Goldwyn son GOLDBANGLE who is out of one of Australia’s best Donor cows and IDEALPRIDE who has the most reliability of all bulls on Australian Genomic rankings with 30 daughters already milking. He offers good Production with positive Components, improves cell counts and is the highest Overall Type bull for all other Genomic Sires over +210 APR.

USA Highlights - Calving Ease and Udder Specialist ERNESTO was one of the prime movers in the recent USA August proof release. Now with over 800 daughters, he has added almost 400 since the April proof release and climbed back up the rankings to take his spot in the Top 50 TPI Sires and is one of the best Overall Type and Udder Improvers in the Top 100; +2.43 PTAT, +2.64 Udders and over +4 for Rear Udder Width, Ligament and Front & Rear Teat Placement.

The other impressive performer from the recent USA proofs was Windy-Knoll-View PHOENIX – VG89 who was first introduced into Australia as a Genomic Sire and now has backed up this early Genomic only proof with an impressive daughter proof consisting of almost 200 milking daughters to be amongst the Top TPI Sires with very good Type and Udders. Bred in the purple, Phoenix is a Goldwyn son from one of the world’s best cow families. His dam is the famous Windy-Knoll-View Pledge – EX95 2E who now has 7 Excellent daughters. With the backing of this great cow family combined with his good Production, high Components, fancy Type with Calving Ease and all the Health traits for increased Fertility, Phoenix is sure to be popular in Australia where his early progeny are now 12 months old and showing the Style you can expect from this outstanding pedigree.

Genomic Highlights - High profile USA Genomic Sires Wabash-Way EXPLODE, Mr Chassity GW CASINO and Ronelee Toystory DOMAIN continue to lead the way amongst the Top GTPI Sire’s with Explode and Domain already starting to have appear in the top rankings and Domain’s first milking daughters are starting to come through.

A new release Genomic sire to Australian breeders for Spring this year is Shema Jeeves CAMERON who sits in the Top 10 Sires at +2419 GTPI with +3.95 PTAT and +3.26 for Udders. With a different sire stack to most other high ranking Genomic sires, Cameron is a Jeeves x Ponitac son, his dam sold for a top price as a maiden heifer at the Top 10 Invitational Sale in 2009 for US$50,000. His grand dam however is no stranger to the Genomic lists, she is currently one of the most sought after cows of the breed; Regancrest S Chassity – EX92 who is also the dam of ranking full brothers GOLD CHIP and CASINO. She also sold for a top price at the International Intrigue Sale in 2009 for US$1.5 Million Dollars. The next dam is Regancrest Cinderella – EX92 from the Barbie cow family and a former No.1 CTPI cow of the breed.

While on Genomics we are pleased to be able to announce the arrival of a new Genomic-Tested bull - DUNHILL who at +193 ISU is the No.1 Sersia France sire. A Bolton from an O-Man, he has huge Production with a combined Fat and Protein of +128 Kgs with positive percentages and over +2 for both Overall Type and Udders with impressive Functional traits.

French Highlights - Highlights from the recent June French Holstein proofs was the performance of Sire of Sons STOL JOC and leading O-Man son VOSAC. Stol Joc confirmed his reputation as one of the world’s leading Jocko sons. He now has over 7,000 daughters milking in France and maintained his position amongst the best Type and Production sires. Despite the fact that he added over 4,000 daughters he increased for both Protein and Fat Kgs and also maintained his excellent Type ranking with outstanding Functional traits.

Vosac also enjoyed an impressive proof run by increasing 7 Kgs Fat, 2 Kgs Protein and 150 Litres of Milk while maintaining his positive percentages for both Fat and Protein. He again improved on his already outstanding Type and Udder proof and now +2.5 for Overall Type and +2.6 for Udders and with his outstanding Calving Ease figure of 94 combined with his excellent Health and Fitness traits he is clearly one of the best O-Man sons on the market. This is even further evident by the fact that from the June proofs there are also a number of impressive Vosac sons starting to emerge as high Genomic-Tested bulls.

ABV Highlights - Jersey Sire SANDBLAST has cemented himself at the top of the Australian ABV rankings after receiving his first official proof in April this year, where he graduated as the No.1 APR Sire. He has now further enhanced his position at the very top of the breed by adding more daughters and improving for all his Production traits while maintaining his excellent Type rating. Not only is he now the only Jersey Sire over +300 for APR he is 66 points clear of the No.2 bull and is also the breeds No.1 Sire for ASI, JSI and Protein Kgs. So dominant is he now for Production traits it is easy to ignore the fact that he also has an outstanding all-round Type proof with very good Functional traits; over +110 for both Overall Type and Udders and Top 1% of the breed for Ligament Strength and Rear Udder Width with great Workabilities, his daughters show tremendous Strength and Capacity and he will also improve Cell Counts.

The other highlight from the August proofs was the second crop success of popular Australian Sire SPIRITUAL who added over 150 second crop daughters since April and increased almost 20 points on APR to once again find himself in the Top 20 Australian Proven sires from the ADHIS Good Bulls Guide where he is one of the best for Type and No.4 Sire for Longevity with good Workabilities, Cell Counts and Fertility traits which will see him remain a Farmer Favorite into 2012 and beyond.

USA Highlights - From the August USA Jersey proofs the highlights were the continued performance of TBONE and KANOO who are both Top 10 JPI Sires and TEQUILA who remains the No.1 Type and Udder Sire in the breed. Tbone in particular had an extremely impressive proof run where he added over 2,200 daughters and held his position amongst the best Type and Production sires in the breed. His first Australian daughters have started to come into Milk now to rave reviews and he is set to make his mark in Australia as he has done overseas.

Kanoo is the No.5 JPI Sire and offers an outcross alternative to Australian breeders, he is the Profit King in the USA where he is No.2 for Fluid Merit Dollars, No.4 for Net Merit Dollars, No.7 for Cheese Merit Dollars and also Top 10 for Productive Life and Daughter Pregnancy Rate.

Tequila remains as the Premier Type Sire of the breed and he further enhanced this reputation by adding more daughters and improving on his previously impressive Udder rating where he was already the No.1 PTA Type and JUI bull of the breed. For Type he has few peers and is a Top 10 Sire for 11 individual Type traits and No.1 for no less than 5 of them.

Another Agri-Gene sire to achieve second crop success in the USA was MAXIMUM who now has over 4,800 daughters and is one of the best for Fat and Protein Components. The Strength of demand from Australian Jersey breeders who are milking Maximum’s has seen a new shipment of Maximum being ordered for Spring Matings.
